Troubleshooting Slow Drying

Splendide Washer-Dryers are installed in a large number of motorhomes throughout the RV industry. Splendide does supply these units to the various manufacturers with a serviceble duct filter for installation on the output side of the dryer. This removable filter is designed to trap the lint so that it doesn't pile up inside of the ductwork. The problem is that most RV manufacturers do not install the duct filter, most likely because it would add to the overall length of the washer-dryer combo unit and there isn't that much room in an RV. Therefore, you will find that the lint will eventually pile up every now and then and will need to be cleaned out.

Saturday, Peg noticed that her Splendide dryer was not doing a very good job of drying clothes. After a call to Splendide tech support we determined that this was most likely the problem.

The way to check this is fairly simple. First, you have to trick the dryer. Put the dryer on "dry" and start. After starting and allowing it to run for a few minutes, open the door and take a small object such as wooden pencil or screwdriver and place in door latch slot to make contact with the "door closed" switch. The dryer will then start up again. If the air is hot, then the duct is plugged with lint. If the dryer air is cool or cold, then you have a problem with the dryer itself rather than lint.

Ours was hot so I went outside, removed the vent cover and flapper, gently pulled out the vent and removed a huge wad of lint from the vent hose and vent flapper/screen. I reinstalled everything and the dryer is again drying clothes as it should.
